This place is great if you are looking to meet interesting characters and really engage with the local culture \/ people. You learn a lot through working with a great variety of very eager students that are not only motivated to learn english but also to show you their culture and their city. Apart from the teaching, you will be staying in a very nice apartment together with other cool and open minded volunteers in a safe city with very warm and welcoming inhabitants. 10\/10 would recommend this experience!!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

I had such a great time volunteering for the English school in Beni-Mellal! I stayed from 20. of March until the end of May 2025. During that time I got to know a lot of cool and interesting people. Obviously the school staff and the other volunteers were extremely cool and we become good friends, but I also mad a lot of friends from Beni-Mellal. Most of them were (university)students who learned either English or German at the English school, but I also meet some other cool people just by random interactions in the city. I learned a lot about Morocco and the Moroccan people and it was very enriching to get a different perspective on so many different things. The teaching part was also a lot of fun, I had students from all age groups for English and mostly young adults for German. Especially with students whom I had a lot of lessons, I got to know very well. It was cool to see them make progress with the language and meanwhile I often learned a lot about the Moroccan people and the country. The excursions on Sunday were great for seeing some interesting parts of the region, and during the week there also was a lot of time to explore the city and hang out in cafes. I would definitely recommend volunteering for the English school, and I am strongly considering of coming back at some point.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

Abdel, Luke, the teachers, and staff at The English School have created truly wonderful organizations. Abdel started The English School with the belief that engaging students with foreigners would broaden their horizons and experiences. This vision led to the hybrid model the school thrives on today, combining paid local teachers with volunteer sessions from people around the world. I found this model mutually beneficial; students gain exposure to international speakers, and volunteers get to experience local life with housing provided. There are currently two schools, one in La Attaouia and the other in El Kelaa. I stayed at the El Kelaa location. You get assigned based on availability and the number of volunteers at each apartment. On my first day, I met Luke for breakfast at a local caf\u00e9, followed by a tour of the school and an introduction to how everything works. I also met some of the staff, teachers, and fellow volunteers. Both the school and the volunteer apartment are simple but provide everything you need. During my four-week stay, I held sessions with students of varying levels, from beginners to advanced, and ages ranging from elementary school to university and older. In every case, the students were respectful, curious, and eager to learn. They were engaging in conversations and shared insights about their city and culture, especially the older and more advanced students. I also participated in two Cooking Clubs and led the very first Engineering Club. These clubs are two-hour activities where teams of students compete for prizes. They\u2019re a fantastic way for students to practice English, collaborate, and have fun. El Kelaa is a quiet and friendly town where I found everything I needed. For our Sunday outings, Khalid, who works at the La Attaouia location, organized volunteer day trips to nearby spots. My favorites were the Ouzoud Waterfalls and a reservoir close to La Attaouia. These outings were a great way to connect with other volunteers and appreciate the natural beauty of the area. As I move on to my next destination, leaving is bittersweet. My time here has been incredible, filled with great experiences and new friendships. I recommend The English School to anyone interested in a meaningful volunteer opportunity. I couldn’t be any happier of choosing The English School.<\/p>\n

The project is wonderful. The whole team is so welcoming, helpful, professional and kind.<\/p>\n

The students are also amazing, so dedicated and willing to learn; making it easier for us, volunteers, to teach them.<\/p>\n

Kelaa is a special city that will always have a place in my heart, as well the project.<\/p>\n

A special mention to Said, one of the workers at the school who is extremely supportive, helpful and friendly.<\/p>\n

I spent 12 days in Kelaa but I could see myself staying there for a month without any doubt. I would strongly recommend it to anyone to experience something special in their life. Choose this project.<\/p>\n

En tan solo un mes en The English School obtuve mucho m\u00e1s de lo que yo esperaba.<\/p>\n

Es una gran experiencia y un gran proyecto. Verdaderamente se siente como una familia, los dem\u00e1s voluntarios y yo nos hicimos tan cercanos en menos de un mes que despu\u00e9s de un a\u00f1o sigo en contacto con ellos.<\/p>\n

Ense\u00f1ar a los estudiantes y tambi\u00e9n aprender de ellos cosas nuevas hac\u00eda los d\u00edas interesantes.<\/p>\n

Esta era mi primera experiencia en un pa\u00eds cuyo idioma no hablaba, en un pa\u00eds africano, en un pais musulm\u00e1n; as\u00ed que estaba dudativa y buscaba una forma amigable de introducirme a algo tan nuevo. The English School fue definitivamente la manera correcta de hacerlo.<\/p>\n

Three months in Attaouia changed my life. Really! Everybody says that, of course, but it did. September 2022, truly in the middle of the middle of nowhere, with only WhatsApp contact between myself and Abdel before then. I realise that I could easily have messaged any number of different programs, and the last few years would not be what they are.<\/p>\n

Morocco became a home, and Kelaa was the base to learn and travel from. I don’t think there could be any alternative to my experiences there, good and bad, that would have given me as much as they did; those particular people at that particular time, all in that place.<\/p>\n

Projects like the English School are few, if any, outside of major cities and large towns, and what Abdel, Luke and the team are doing is invaluable. Morocco is changing; and quickly. Aside from seeing a part of the country without a hint of the tourist-washed, you’ll be playing an enormous part in helping people to harness the benefits of those changes and navigate the downsides.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

The English School of Kelaa accepted me as a last minute placement when my original plans changed. I arrived on January 28, 2025 and I am still here. I will be here until mid-June when I have another commitment. I had no plans to stay in Kelaa this long or even in Morocco for this amount of time, but the experience has been amazing.<\/p>\n

I can’t say enough things about the school, its organization, the staff, and students. I am from Ohio in the United States and have been living and working abroad since 2014. I have also had many volunteer experiences during the past 11 years. This ranks right at the top.<\/p>\n

The students are extremely engaged in the language learning process that you feel like you are having a great time with friends or family. It is an extremely welcoming community that makes you want to stay.<\/p>\n

If you are considering a volunteer experience in Morocco, I highly recommend The English School of Kelaa.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

I stayed at the English school from October ’22 – September of ’23. During this year, I got to know some of the best people I’ve ever met, and made life long connections and friendships. This is an immense opportunity for anyone willing to take it, to learn about the local culture, Moroccan culture, and enjoys the natural beauty of the Maghreb. I have just come back from Beni Mellal, where I spent three weeks teaching English and Italian.<\/p>\n

I can’t say anything about the other two “The English Schools” located in different cities because I haven’t been there , but my Beni Mellal experience has been absolutely spot on.<\/p>\n

A brand new School which, thanks to the effort and the passion of people involved will definitely improve their facilities and it would became a perfect place for teaching, sharing experiences with others volunteer and local students as long as a cultural exchange meeting point.<\/p>\n

What I loved about the City is the lack of tourist and tourism in general, Beni Mellal represent the real Morocco, a place full of smiling, friendly and helpful people, so ideal if you want to experience the real Moroccan lifestyle.<\/p>\n

Students have been lovely, well educated and interested, which is a bonus sometimes. I have been working by the side of others volunteers and we had a great time together, especially organizing some walks around the city countryside.<\/p>\n

At Beni Mellal school you are very well supported by the local school team, and all you have to do is give your best during the few hours you are requested to teach.<\/p>\n

Hopefully I would make my way back there sometimes in the future (In sha’ Allah) .<\/p>\n

I definitely recommend “the English School”.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

I volunteered for the English school for about a month around March 2023 and had an amazing time there. The team of volunteers was great, I got to know authentic Moroccan culture (including Couscous Fridays at Mama Malika’s). I am still in contact with some of the people I met there, even though they live on the other side of the world. It was also the beginning of Ramadan back then, which was great to experience, and some of us participated as well.<\/p>\n

The interaction with the students was lovely because they all were so eager to learn and meet people from abroad. I hadn’t done it before, so it was a challenge, but I definitely gained some experience and got to know myself better.<\/p>\n

If the place is still how it used to be, you are in good hands there \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

I felt very welcomed and accepted from the moment I arrived, Luke and Abdel are attentive and took great care including me in the day to day activities at the school!<\/p>\n

The students were eager to learn and excited to share their culture with me.<\/p>\n

In total I’ve spent 4 months with the school and have enjoyed every moment! I will be back!<\/p>\n

One of my favourite parts is our Sunday trips to explore some of the beauty of Morocco! We went to waterfalls, cities, lakes and rivers! Spectacular eye candy!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
